Do you remember those special days, those days when all you could do was try to get your mom's attention. "Look Mommy, I built a sand castle just for you." or maybe it was as simple as riding your bike. "Hey Mommy, Im a big boy now, I can ride my bike without any help".
As we slowly aged things started to change. No longer did we only try to please Mom, we now had a different female to attract. We started working out to make ourselves more manly. We took better care of ourselves, paid more attention to our hygiene. Geez, we even started to comb our hair. Next thing you knew we were even attempting to woo that special someone. Poetry, nice music, we tried everything to make ourselves look special. It wasnt long after that we knew it would take something more to seal the deal. We needed to get a job to get the special car that could transport that special someone to all the cool places we dreamed about. It was hard work, but damn, she was worth it. The plan seemed to work but the older we got the more discerning she became. Education, Job advancement, home hunting, the list goes on. If it was up to us, beer and crackers and the hammock would be fine. Nope, you had to become a connoisseur of wine and a creative dinner planner. Intrique, seduction, LOVE making. Oh my God what ever happened to us men? One thing I tell you, WOMAN.
So tell me, Really, who's World is It?

I agree with you there, I'm sad to say that there is too much pressure put on men to be the perfect mate.
I wish it were different.
SM
My post was slightly tongue in cheek. I dont worry to much about being perfect. ;)
That is our driving factor, isn't it?
Want of a woman is basically our reason for doing anything. Jobs, homes, cars, all of it hinges on getting or keeping that special lady (or fella, if that's what you like).
Of course, we grow and find we can actually be friends with these wondrous creatures too ;-)
Yea... if a man tries too hard then... he's just trying too hard and that's never good!!
Mac has it right. In the end all of man's innovation is a drive for attention/sex/sexual attention from those we want to impress!
Oh give me a break!!! We (women) compromise as much as you do....so be a man and suck it up. We do as much to compliment your lives and of prcourse vise versa.
So all you "men" out there who want to blame us "women" for your "downfall", I say, give me a break! ps.s love you honey ;)
The more I think about this issue I think - the role for the man in society is clearly diminishing.
We were once hunters, warriors, and competitiors. Now we live in a society that really is non-violent, has grocery stores, and competition is for leaisure. What exactly is left for the man - except reproduction and dishes?
No one can usurp the role of the woman in society, she is a natural nurterer...there's no nanny waiting as soon as a kid is born to raise that child (or worse yet - the need for women birthing becoming severely lessened via some way to build children from dna).
If u think about, as men, what is it that defines you?
Aw, for me, Tat? What a sweetie. I'll do you one better. I'll become a big fat liberal just for you. No really! Go see.

Smooch.
Completely agree. I'm still wondering what poor sap managed to convince men that they rule the world...
OK, first off, it was good to see practicallyhealthy commenting on here. Now only if she'd update her blog once in a while (hint hint).
I find myself thinking that things like relationships, marriage and parenting are give and take. Like SoccerMom said, I don't know if it's necessarily too much pressure. But it's the drive to do a good job, not necessarily be perfect.
